Blackberry tips: Internet using Proxies

There are several reasons why you need to use a proxy while browsing the internet. The most common is usually because the site you want to visit can not open because it is blocked. Blocking can be done by Internet service providers or administrator the site itself or in other cases, blocked by your office because it may have the potential to interfere with employee productivity.

Unfortunately default Blackberry browser does not have a feature that allows users to surf using a proxy. But with the help of a third party browser you can do it.

One of the third-party web applications that have the feature proxy server settings is UC browser. Here's how to use it:

  • The first thing you should do of course UC browser to download the application and install it on your blackberry. This application can be downloaded free from the App World.
  • Once installed, run the app UC Browser. Click the menu-settings-Preferences, click Network, select the proxy server option, enter the IP address and proxy port you want to use the fields below Proxy server options.
  • Then enter the address of the blocked site on the option "Use proxy to visit the domain below". You can enter more than one page of the site by using a comma to separate each address. Then click menu> Save Change to save the settings made. Then you can visit the sites that had been blocked.
  • If you are confused with the IP address and port that can be used as a proxy, you can use google to search for proxy ip that can be used by using the keyword "Proxy server".
